2008 WharfFest
The Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association is sponsoring its second annual
Wharf Fest, on Saturday and Sunday, June 28 & 29, 11am-4pm. All owners / operators of boats and autos of unique and / or vintage character are invited to come and display and participate in a fun boat parade, or even to bring their craft for static display. Pirates, music, kids activities, and more surprises are featured. This is a fun, family-oriented, maritime festival that is suitable for all ages.
This year, several steam-powered launches will be “cruising the cove”, as will several other vintage watercraft. Lateral activities include a model ship and maritime artifacts show, heritage craft demonstrations at and around the museum, free hayrides, a book and DVD signing by Linda McCune (Mrs. Capt. Puget), live music, and visits by vintage automobiles.
Wharf Fest was started last year by the Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association. CHWA was looking for a “low-impact” celebration of Coupeville’s historic 1905 wharf and scenic waterfront. According to Museum Director and CHWA member Rick Castellano, “low-impact” means no street closures, and no outside vendors. “An event like Wharf Fest really gives our local merchants an opportunity to showcase their businesses, and have fun with their community” said Castellano. The Island County Historical Museum will be open for “admission by donation” during Wharf Fest, and will feature free showings of several of Don McCune’s Exploration Northwest maritime documentary shows in their upstairs conference room.
